Michael Clayton

George Clooney convincingly portrays attorney Michael Clayton as a huge law firm's "janitor", implying "fixer" is too lofty a term for his position. Tom Wilkinson plays another lawyer who is so absorbed in a multi-billion dollar case that he goes off the deep end, or maybe just finds clarity and honesty. Finally, any movie with Tilda Swinton (see "Orlando") or Sydney Pollack is a must-see. Acting!

The nice thing about this film is the shades of gray in the characters. It's a suspenseful two-hour ride that employs a flashback for most of the plot.

The Heartbreak Kid

Definitely a nominee for worst movie ever made. I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a comedy. Instead of suffering through this garbage, I wish I had spent 2 hours sticking needles in my eyes or watching The View.

The Jane Austen Book Club

Remember those blue and red glasses theaters handed out for 3-D movies? They should have handed out Ritalin to watch this hyperkinetic chick flick. I did not have ADD before this film but now I do.

I'll give one example to show how bad this film is. There is not one, but TWO reaction shots from a whimpering dog, as though the dog is following the transparent "book vs. life" remarks caroming around the room at light speed during the book club discussions. Ouch.

Late September & Back in Ptown
