American Idol

No, not that shit on TV. Steven Pinker, one of my intellectual idols, opines on the decline of violence.

Theme:
In the decade of Darfur and Iraq, and shortly after the century of Stalin, Hitler, and Mao, the claim that violence has been diminishing may seem somewhere between hallucinatory and obscene. Yet recent studies that seek to quantify the historical ebb and flow of violence point to exactly that conclusion.

Back to reality

Say what you will about the incompetence and corruption of the current administration, but here is a reminder they are right about one thing: this is a fight for civilization.

Imus

Hard to believe there's an uproar over this unfunny and ugly radio host. Anytime I surf through his show on MSNBC (and I can't surf fast enough) he says something stupid and lame. I actually feel sorry for the NBC-related employees (Russert, Matthews, etc.) who are most likely contractually obligated to shill on his show.
